Oh Tracy, what a fantastic, moody, windy, stormy. Everything is appealing here for me ! Love the smoothy aspect of the waves and the compo is perfect. 5 stars.

It makes me want to jump away from this rolling wave .............

25 Jan 2012 11:46am

@Ellebelle: Thank you! good think I was using a long lens, those waves were pretty big!

digitalCG from Manchester, United Kingdom

Slightly dreamy feel to this - great choice of shutter speed to take some edge off the wave texture and allow the breakwater and lighthouse more prominence.

25 Jan 2012 1:06pm

@digitalCG: Thank you so much!

Z from Shanghai, China

The blue tones of the sky is beautiful ! And the smooth wave looks dreamy .. it almost looks like vaporized !

25 Jan 2012 1:12pm

@Z: Thank you! Vaporized is a great description!

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

This beautiful capture would be a natural for a spotlight selection Tracy! Absolutely stunning! Bravo! ;-)

@Eric Cousineau: Thanks Eric! There's nothing like stormy light for some great photography!

Gary Hart from California, United States

Gorgeous capture, Tracy. I love the high contrast, and the static sky and active waves are perfect complements.

25 Jan 2012 2:48pm

@Gary Hart: Thank you so much Gary! It was cold and windy, but so worth it to get out and enjoy the gorgeous light!

Moein from Bandar-e-Anzali, Iran

@Moein: Thank you!

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

Hi Tracy - Gary is so right about this dramatic contrast - it is like a cup of Starbucks Espresso with no cream! The first thing that struck me - and I just love - is the wave here in the front, the one that is breaking! I am just in awe of your timing here where you have capturedt the wave, half broken and half rolling (forming)...that "look" just knocks me out. What it does is it adds a perfect balance to the entire image ...your work is just awesome!!

25 Jan 2012 3:34pm

@Denny Jump Photo: Thank you Denny! It took me a while to get a wave that I liked....There were also surfers out there, so I had to wait for them to be out of the photo! But it was wort it to get the thought I had in mind on "film"! I does seem that some of the best photos are ones that I can pre-visualize! (is that even a word?)

Barbara Kile from Ft. Worth, United States

A winner! Beautiful light and the choice of f/stop is perfect!

25 Jan 2012 4:11pm

@Barbara Kile: Thanks Barbara! A storm had just passed and another was on the horizon, so the light was just amazing! And the fact that it happened on my day off was a real gift!

Olivier from Manage, Belgium

Very goo i like this style!

25 Jan 2012 6:48pm

@Olivier: Thank you!

RBL from Oxford, United States

25 Jan 2012 7:50pm

25 Jan 2012 8:46pm

Paul from summerside, Canada

Great

26 Jan 2012 12:13am

@Paul: Thanks!

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

This is absolutely gorgeous! I love how you caught that wave! The colors are superb.

26 Jan 2012 1:07am

@Elaine Hancock: Thanks Elaine! Catching the wave just right was the tough part! I had to wait and be ready ant try to time when to start the exposure to get what I liked! But I am so happy that it worked!

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

This beautiful shot would also make a lovely mood painting. I like the soft look of the wind-blown water. I also like the horizontal layers with the one vertical to tie them all together.

26 Jan 2012 1:36am

@B. Thomas: Thank you! I love moving water too....I am always drawn to photographing water, so when the waves and wind are up I am a happy girl!

janina from Melbourne, Australia

It shows...you don't have to have extremely long exposures to get that silky smooth action of the water! I love this one, tracy. definitely stars here. ;OD

26 Jan 2012 3:53am

@janina: Thanks Janina, and you are right, there is no one "perfect" shutter speed for moving water- so much depends on how fast the water is moving, the light in the scene, and all that! I find that I just start trying some different ones and adjust from there to get what I am after! Here I still wanted texture and form in the water to show how turbulent it was that day, but still give a real sense of motion...Glad that came through!
And as always thank you so much for all your great comments!

Bill Brown from California, United States

Fantastic capture!

26 Jan 2012 4:39am

@Bill Brown: Thank you Bill!

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

This is a lovely statement shot - just the way we like to think of lighthouses . . classic.

26 Jan 2012 8:48am

@Ronnie 2¢: Thank you! Yes, I do love the "classic" lighthouse look too! Hoping for some more "bad" weather to come our way soon :)

DarkElf from Perth, Australia

fantastic photo! love the composition and the wave in the foreground creates good interest in the foreground! great contrast as well to emphasise the sharpness and textures!

26 Jan 2012 10:48am

@DarkElf: Thank you so much! I didn't think about it in that way, but you are right, I think the wave helps create some visual tension that helps the photo a lot!

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

Yes "Pre-visualized" is a word - you just invented it! :-) and I love it..I also forgot to mention the sky, which others have commented on. It is indeed super..one of those special occasions where the sky is dark providing a dark backround for a lit object/subjuet in the foreground....with colours to boot..Just super!

26 Jan 2012 2:38pm

@Denny Jump Photo: :))) (Big smile!)

Barbara Lee from Oakland, United States
